i agree with you concern_citizen.. hindi naman mapapalabas ang tabloid na yun kung hindi na-approve ng mga consultants/advisers.. i really don’t get the point of why they have to stop the distribution..

Posted by piattos..jejeje at July 21, 2008, 4:21 pm

i am not a member of highlights. i am just but an ordinary student who aims to make lorma a better place.

but i think every body should defend press freedom inside the campus.

we all want a better lorma. good education also comes with a good publication.

Posted by poo poo at July 21, 2008, 8:42 pm

remove the name of lorma here and let a group of students take over it.

this will make this channel more free, liberal and critical.

it may be supported by student orgs, etc.

I heard about this issue from my significant other who happens to be a student of Lorma Colleges.

I’ve read the article thoroughly and weighed the stands the body has presented on the article.

Yes, the student body have a say on this issue regarding the tuition fee hike for they PAY for it on the enrollment process prior the start of the academic year.

We all have our versions of our shares of suffering we are currently experiencing - the rise of commodities. Everything’s worth had rose into something unfavorable for the masses - the middle class type of people, US, to be precise. The tuition fee hike tends to be a pain in the ass for us students, especially our folks.Allowance, miscellaneous expenses and other needs that consume our ought-to-be-budgets. For those who earn less than those of the middle class type of earners, it’s a more bitter story.

Yes, College Director Jose P. Mainggang was right on his statement regarding the justification of the hike - to increase the salary and wages of the employees to prevent them from transferring top other institutions and to continue to provide the students QUALITY EDUCATION; but what intensifies the sentiments of the students is the transparency of the administration on it’s SUDDEN hike and OVERPRICING *as stated above* plus the CANCELLATION of the Lorma Highlights’ tabloid issue DISTRIBUTION which featured an article that zeroed on the tuition fee increase.

Why the STOP?
IS the administration be scared of something that is printed on that piece of paper? IS the admin scared of what might erupt among the campus environment after the body reads something about where their good old folks’ money really goes?

The article may be one sided or balanced, but it’s really up to the writer and editor to what is supposed to be read on that glossy sheet. After all, it all begins in the writer and it’s on the editor’s responsibility to edit what he/she thinks is right or wrong. - Right or Wrong, it is really something which his/her environment shapes - and for this case - the students’ grievances towards the hike, the transparency on miscellaneous expenses and the sudden stop of the tabloid distribution.

On the journalistic point of view, ( I was a Lorma Special Science HS Chief Editor before) I firmly believe that the paper’s distribution must not be halted. Where did all the ideals of academic and journalistic freedom you guys enjoyed before? Up to this point, i believe, you still have to enjoy it, for it is, in a given way, the right thing.

Fight back.

Student Journalists don’t have any other outlet other than their organ. This is what the paper was made for - to Reveal and Expose. To make anything public, given that such issue CONCERNS the target audience. The admin can not do this to you guys, I believe so. You are all responsible to voice out opinions - and you did just that. Whether it is sided or not, it doesnt matter, AFTER ALL, IT IS AN OPINION.

In an institution where they promote academic freedom, diba ironic na magsupress sila ng ganyang issues?

For the news writer of that certain article, a straight news should be balanced, in lieu to what your paper’s banner say - balanced, aware, free.

Well, the third just didn’t went out right.

AS OF NOW, you guys are NOT FREE. SO DOES THE PAPER. SO DOES THE VOICES WHICH REFLECTS THE GRIEVANCES OF THE STUDENTRY.

THE WHOLE STUDENTRY PAY FOR A FEE FOR THE PUBLICATION OF YOUR PAPER I BELIEVE? WHICH ALSO STANDS AS THE LIFELINE OF YOUR ORGAN WHENEVER YOU’RE PLANNING TO PUBLISH A NEW ISH, RIGHT?

PROVE THE USE OF BEING A STUDENT PUBLICATION.

THEY MAY HAVE THE POWER TO CEASE THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE ISSUE BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN THAT THE NEWS THAT YOU GUYS EMBODY SHOULD ALSO CEASE TO RESONATE THROUGH THE STUDENTS.

Don’t let the PRESS be SUPPRESSED.

Retaliate.

BALANCE.aware.free.

Posted by balance-me-not at October 4, 2008, 10:51 am

PRESS FREEDOM IS NOT ALWAYS GOING OPPOSITE.
